Frequently asked questions

Is CallNotesAI really free?
Yes. There is no seat price, no AI credits and no minute limit. You only pay what a paid outside engine costs us for your usage, with no markup; today that is only the backup AI model, used when our own model fails a quality check. Most users pay nothing.
Do I need a card to sign up?
No. Sign up with your name, email and a password.
Can it join my Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call?
Not yet: the meeting bot is coming soon. Today, open the browser recorder on desktop Chrome or Edge and tick “tab audio” to record both sides of an online call.
Can I upload a recording I already have?
Yes. mp3, m4a, wav, ogg, opus, webm, mp4, amr and 3gp files up to 500 MB, including Plaud and other voice-recorder exports.
Can it take notes from phone calls?
Yes. Upload the recording from your Android call recorder, Samsung, MIUI, Truecaller or WhatsApp. We read the number, contact and time from the file name, and split stereo recordings into your side and the caller's.
Which languages are supported?
English today. Indian languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and more) and Hinglish are built and coming soon.
How long until the notes are ready?
Usually a few minutes after the upload finishes; long recordings take longer. You get an email when they are ready.
How accurate are the notes?
Notes are written by our own AI model. Every action item and quote must appear in the transcript, or the note is rejected and written again. You can edit the transcript and rename speakers.
Can I search old meetings?
Yes. Search every transcript by words, speaker, source, language and date, or ask a question in Ask AI and get answers that link to the exact moment.
What is the commitments tracker?
It lists every promise made in your meetings (“I'll send the deck by Friday”) with who made it and when it is due. When a later meeting says it is done, it closes itself. Overdue promises show as slipped.
Does it send notes to my CRM, Slack or Jira?
Not yet. HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Slack, Notion, Jira, Asana and Linear connections are built and you can preview exactly what each would receive, but sending is coming soon.
Where is my data stored?
On Surge Software's own servers in Bengaluru: the app, the database and recordings. Two outside services are used: Claude (Anthropic) as a backup AI model only when ours fails a quality check, which you can switch off per workspace, and Resend for sending emails.
How do people on the call know they are recorded?
The browser recorder shows a recording banner, and every meeting has a link anyone can use to ask for their voice and words to be removed. All of this is logged.
Do you keep voiceprints?
No, unless your workspace turns on voice memory (off by default). Turning it off deletes the stored voice signatures.
Can my team use it together?
Yes. Create a workspace, invite people as owner, admin or member, and share meetings, clips and notes.
Is there an API?
Yes. Create an API key in Settings and use the REST API to list meetings, read transcripts and notes, and upload recordings.
How do I reset my password?
Use “Forgot password?” on the log-in page. The emailed link works once and expires in 30 minutes.
How do I stop the emails?
Use the unsubscribe link in any “notes ready” or digest email, or change it in Settings → Your emails. Account and billing emails still arrive.
How do I contact a person?
Use “Talk to a person” in the assistant (bottom right), or email [email protected].
Still unsure? Ask the assistant (bottom right) or write to [email protected]. Create a free account.
